Today's a very sad day for us as we lost our beloved pet Nigel, suddenly. He's been part of our family 12 1/2 years and grew up with my children. He was fine last night but this morning it took a lot to wake him up and he died on the table at the animal hospital during testing. They think it may have been acute liver failure. Thankfully, he was never sick and didn't suffer at all. It's just such a shock and I've done nothing but cry all day... I'll miss you, pup....

Oh my god.. I am so sorry. I wish you and your family the best, Nigel may be gone physically but his spirit still lives on no matter what. Once again I'm so sorry for your lost, and Nigel will always live on in your hearts.

I am so sorry. My dog (I have an eight-year-old Pomeranian) is like a family member, so I understand how you felt about him. At least Nigel didn't suffer and had a happy life for nearly thirteen years.

I am so sorry to hear, Mrs. B! I know how you feel though, we lost our Golden Retriever a few years ago and it was horrible!! Pets are like members of the family to us!
I agree with Sushi, our pets always live on in our hearts...

You have my deepest sympathy Mrs B. I had to have my beloved Jaime put to sleep 5 years ago after having her for just over 12 years because she had a fast growing tumor that left her unable to even get up on her own. I stayed with her through the entire (blessedly painless) procedure so that I was with her until the end. Five years later, I still miss her.

Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts and words. It still hasn't really sunk in yet but it hits me everytime I head downstairs and expect him to be there. It's a weird feeling....

im sorry. I know how much a part of the family a good dog is. Our Ridgeback was hit by a bus last summer, 1500 bucks later, missing an eye and fractured skull, ribs, broken jawbone, we got her back. But not a day goes by we arent reminded how special she is and how close we came. I cant imagine the loneliness of a morning without that cold nose prodding under the covers. I hope the time flies by and you guys are ok.

I'm really sorry to hear about your loss Karen. I think of our pets as family members and I would be crushed if one left us.
On a more positive note it was good to see you give your dog a warm and loving home for 12+ years. I know it's really hard right now and my thoughts are with your family. Stay strong, Nigel will always be in your hearts.

My condolences, Mrs. B. I know what you're going through, as our Brittney, Ditto, died last November after 14 years with us. My son(16) and daughter(11) grew up with Ditto. We still miss him very much. For years, my wife swore that Ditto would be our last dog. After he was gone, we soon realized that our family would always need a dog. Rudy, a five year old retired racing greyhound, joined us in February. Nobobody will ever replace Ditto, but Rudy quickly found his own niche in all of our hearts. He's a big (82 lbs), gentle, affectionate baby. We adopted him from Greyhound Friends in Hopkinton. I would recommend any dog lover to visit them and meet some of these beatiful animals.
